Royal Mail Salen to Pennyghael

Once the road was opened up round the Gribun cliffs in the late 19th century, it became the regular route to Salen and the North. This was because of the precarious state of the Glen road, where culverts and bridges became blocked and flooded very regularly. The postman in the photo was Duncan MacDonald.
