Cutting hay on Inch Kenneth

Dan Robertson, tenant on Inch Kenneth, cutting hay in front of the house in 1923, while the Lows were owners. Daniel, born in 1869, had once worked as a cowhand in the USA and still had a cowboy saddle which he once put on the pony belonging to the Low children. They were very fond of both him and his wife Jessie. However, Dan was aging, and wanted to retire, so the farm was advertised to let and John Fisher from Ardlui took it on. Dan and Jessie retired to Altnassearmoin, a croft in Salen. Following Dan's death in 1950 Jessie gave up the croft and returned to her native Banffshire until her death in 1955. When family members went to Altnassearmoin to take Jessie home, they had to leave their crofting dog with a neighbour as it only understood Gaelic …. and although Dan had been a fluent Gaelic speaker, Jessie was not!
