Clipping or shearing at Tiroran

Clipping or shearing at Tiroran, possibly 1912. The sheepfank at Tiroran where this was taking place is now the National Trust Carpark for Burg. On 'Fanking Days' people from adjacent farms all joined forces to gather the sheep, bring them down to the relevant fank and help in the process of dipping, clipping etc. The host farm would provide refreshments during the day.

Some of the people in this photograph were identified by Chrissie MacGillivray of Burg Farm. There were 5 shearers, Neil Kennedy (Tiroran); John MacDonald (Tavool); Duncan and Calum MacGillivray (Burg); Sandy Weir (Tiroran). In the wool sack was Lachy (Clogs) McIntyre from Tobermory ; at its foot was Jimmy Thomson. Others mentioned were Mr and Mrs Horsfall ,Tiroran manager; Donald (Cock-eyed) Campbell, chauffeur and coachman; Willie Sorlin, general handyman and postman.
